Lincoln's Beard About Us

Tomorrow is fine, but today is all that you have.

Lincoln’s Beard is a four piece, non-traditional folk band from Vancouver, Washington. In fall 2007, Tyler Morgan (trumpet, keys, glockenspiel, mandolin, vocals), Kristopher Chrisopulos (guitar, vocals), and Dwayne Spence (bass, banjo, back-up vocals) got together at a small rehearsal space, on Lincoln Ave., to work on a group of traditional folk songs that Kris had been writing. For fun, the band played a few live shows under the name Wilson T. Love.

The more shows they played, the more it became apparent that they were less interested in "fronch porch jams" and more into setting the porch on fire. Tyler started playing more trumpet and punching the keyboard because that’s what he likes to do. Dwayne borrowed a banjo he couldn’t play and started shaking anything that would make noise. Kris grew his beard out, started dancing and shouting random thoughts. This combination was no longer a typical folk trio and it needed a new name. The name of the band came into question, not only because the music began to change, but there also happens to be a Wilson T. Love living in Ohio, so Lincoln’s Beard was the obvious second choice.

In the winter of 2008 they recorded and released the five song E.P., Trumbull County Bangout. ‘Trumble County Bangout’ had a very traditional folk sound, with an acoustic set-up. Eighteen months later in the spring of 2009 the band released their first full length album , Our American Cousin.

Our American Cousin

"They jump around stylistically from backwoods gospel to jaunty indie pop, yet each song seems to pick up right where the last one left off………..Lincoln’s beard challenges the tastes of its listeners without forcing complicated arrangements on them."
